Glomerular Diseases
Glomerulonephritis:
Immune mediated inflammatory inflammation of the glomeruli following a streptococcal infection (usually respiratory, occasionally skin).
Antibody-antigen immune complexes entrapped in the glomerular capillary membranes.
Treatment – antibiotics for infection; supportive therapy until resolved (eg diuretics)
Alport’s Syndrome:
Inherited progressive degeneration of the glomerular basement membrane due to a defect in type IV collagen. Progressive renal transplant.
