Chronic pancreatitis

Chronic pancreatitis:
Characterised by persistent inflammation and irregular fibrosis replacing parts of the normal pancreatic parenchyma  progressive and irreversible  pancreatic dysfunction
May result in diabetes mellitus.

Aetiology:
70-80% due to chronic alcoholism

Clinical features:
Insidious onset of abdominal pain – half have had episodes of acute pancreatitis;
