Purpura
Haemorrhaging into the skin.
Characterised by extravasation of red blood cells into the dermis from small cutaneous blood vessels.
Symptom of many diseases:
1) Inflammatory – vasculitis
2) Non-inflammatory – venous stasis; senile purpura; steroid excess; physical trauma; meningococcaemia; drug reactions; disseminated intravascular coagulation
