Posterior external rotators of the hip

Posterior external rotators of the hip:
• gluteus maximus, piriformis, quadriceps femoris
• patient sitting with legs over edge of table (knee and hip are flexed)
• abduct the leg towards the midline of the body as the patients resists to keep the hip in its neutral position
