Anterior external rotators of the hip:
• sartorius, obturator internus, externus and gemelli
• patient supine, legs over end of examination couch, knees flexed to 90 degrees
• abduct tibia away from midline of body – patient is asked to resist this motion, so that hip stays in its neutral position
• watch for elevation of hip of couch
