Superficial peroneal nerve

Superficial peroneal nerve:
Branch of common peroneal  down anterior aspect of leg (innervates peroneus longus and brevis muscles)  pierces fascia 10 – 15 cm above lateral malleolus  continues subcutaneously  splits into medial and intermediate dorsal cutaneous branches 6cm above lateral malleolus  sensory innervation to first and fifth toes.
Sensory distribution of this nerve may sometimes be replaced by the sural nerve.
