Adductor Hallucis

Adductor hallucis:
Proximal attachment – plantar medial aspect of bases of middle 3 metatarsal bases and sheath of peroneal longus tendon (oblique head) and plantar plates and deep transverse ligaments of metatarsal heads of 3rd-5th digits (sometimes called transverse pedis muscle)
Distal attachment – two heads combine with lateral head of flexor hallucis brevis  lateral side of base of proximal phalanx of hallux and lateral sesamoid
Open chain function – adduction of hallux
Closed chain function – stabilises hallux on ground
Nerve supply –lateral plantar
Arterial supply – first plantar metatarsal artery
