Lisfranc Joint

Joint complex consisting of articulations between base of metatarsals with the cuneiforms and cuboid. Also referred to as Tarsometatarsal joints.

Base of second is in an ‘intercuneiform recess’  enhanced stability.

Synovial cavities communicate with each other – separate one for first.
Connected by dorsal and plantar ligaments and interosseous cuneometatarsal ligaments.
Bases of four lateral metatarsals are connected to each other by dorsal, plantar and interosseous ligaments. First is not connected to others.
