Haematocrit (Hct):
Percent of volume of RBC’s in anti-coagulated whole blood. Determined in laboratory by centrifuging blood sample heavier erythrocytes sink to bottom of tube haematocrit calculated from this.
Normally 45% (or 45ml per 100ml blood). Decrease anaemia; blood loss; excessive IV therapy. Increase volume depletion, polycythemia vera, extreme physical exercise, dehydration
