Tinnitus:
sensation of unwanted noise perceived by the patient and caused by abnormal excitation of auditory apparatus; an auditory sensation – can be continuous, intermittent or pulsatile
various noises described – hissing, whistling, “steam engine”
may be side effect of drugs (quinine, streptomycin, salicylates)
