Descriptive studies (observational; non-experimental):
• Description of the health status of the group under study
• Correlations may be sought between two or more factors
• Usually done when little is known about the condition
• Can be used for ‘hypothesis generation’ (as opposed to ‘hypothesis testing’)
• Can be qualitative or quantative
