Types of data:

Nominal data – consists of ‘either-or’ data – can’t be ordered. Eg dead/alive; male/female; agree/disagree. Categories must be mutually exclusive. Analysis is by frequencies in categories. Also called classification data or scale
Ordered data – ranked in order. Eg: good>fair>poor
Interval data/scale –
Numerical discrete – data consists of counts – ie limited to certain numbers
Numerical continuous – take any value in a given range – can theoretically assume any value (eg force; distance)

Parameter – characteristic of an entire population
Statistic – characteristic of a sample used to estimate the value of the population parameter Find Weird and Wonderful Books at AbeBooks
