Statue of Liberty
The Statue of Liberty is a copper statue on Liberty Island in the harbour in New York City, designed by the French sculptor Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi as a gift to the United States from the people of France in 1886. The statue represents the Roman goddess, Libertas, who carries a torch and a tablet inscribed with the date of the American Declaration of Independence, July 4, 1776.
