Dorsal Midfoot Interosseous Compression Syndrome

Wikis > Orthopaedics > Midfoot Problems > Dorsal Midfoot Interosseous Compression Syndrome

Due to interosseus compression forces at dorsum of midfoot (mostly metatarsocuneiform joints)  inflames dorsal structures

Pain on palpation of dorsal met-cuneiform joints
Stabilise calcaneus with one hand – plantarflex forefoot on rearfoot  often produced pain
Pain often during early propulsive phase of gait (which is when windlass starts  plantarflexion moment of forefoot on rearfoot)

Treatment: RICE; strapping; change position of shoe laces to avoid lumps; orthoses; heel lift (important to take pressure of dorsal joint surfaces); calf muscle stretches.
