Proprioception:
Assess posterior column function.
Patients closes eyes – ask patient to assess if first or fifth MPJ have been moved into a dorsiflexed or plantarflexed position.
Romberg’s sign – patient standing with eyes open and shut – observe balance
Finger-nose test – patient standing, eyes shut and arm outstretched – patient instructed to bring finger to nose
