Leg Pain and Endometriosis

Endometriosis affects up to 10% of women and leg pain has been reported in about 50% of those women. This pain involves the peripheral nerves is often cyclical in nature and occurs during the period, but can become a constant pain problem.

The leg pain is most likely due to sciatica from the endometriosis (‘sciatic endometriosis’) where the inflammatory tissues are in the vicinity of the sciatic nerve.

The clinical features are similar to other causes of sciatica such as a pain on the straight leg raising test. The pain can radiate to the lateral leg, the back of the thighs and calves, the soles, heels and top of the foot

Foot drop has also been reported as occurring as a consequence of endometriosis.
