Foreign body or vomit in airway.
Sudden choking; increase respiratory effort; cyanosis
Management:
If able to cough continue
Heimlich manoeuvre or chest thrust
CPR if indicated.
Heimlich manoeuvre: (not recommended in all countries)
1) Stand behind patient; wrap hands around waist
2) Bend elbows; make fist with one hand – place thumb side of this hand against abdomen (just above naval)
3) Grasp fist with other hand – press both hand into abdomen with a quick thrust in an upward direction
4) Repeat until object expelled from airway
