CPR/Cardiopulmonary resuscitation
ABC:
A – Airway
1) Place patient on back on flat hard surface
2) Attempt to get verbal responses
3) Call emergency medical system
4) Open airway by tilting head back with one hand and lift chin with other hand – do not hyperextend neck
5) Clear mouth of secretions
B – Breathing:
1) Place your cheek close to patient’s nose and mouth, looking towards their chest
2) Look, listen and feel for breathing
3) If not breathing pinch patients nose to close and give 2 full breaths into the mouth
C – Circulation:
1) Check carotid pulse
2) If pulse and no breathing give rescue breathing at rate of one breath every 5 seconds
3) If no pulse place both hands on sternum depress sternum 3 to 5 cm’s – do 15 compressions for every 2 breaths
4) Check pulse every minute.
