Corneal abrasion
Common sports injury to the anterior chamber
Generally due to direct contact (eg a finger in the eye) or by a foreign body.
Painful and describe the feeling of “something being in the eye”.
Eyelid Lacerations
Sub-conjunctival haemorrhage
Often painless and not associated with any significant symptoms.
Most cases, self-limiting condition which does not require any treatment.
Hyphaemia
Blood accumulation in the anterior chamber from a ruptured iris vessel.
Retinal haemorrhage and detachment
In sport, often from a direct blow to the eye or back of the head.
Straining (eg lifting weights) can also case retinal oedema and haemorrhage.
Penetrating eye injury
Orbital injuries
Fractures from direct trauma.
