Slides are a popular type of casual footwear that get their name as you slide the foot in and out of them. They usually have a single strap that goes over the top of the foot. Slides used to be criticized as having no aesthetic appeal and just being functional. Now have several prominent designers producing high end fashionable models.
As a category of footwear they appeared at first in Ancient Rome.
In 1964, the German brand Birkenstock popularized a particular style of sandal with a slide like design that had a deep and flexible foot bed.
In the 1970’s Adidas developed their pool slides with the launch of its Adilette model and now with its Yeezy branding.
