Passes with tibial artery and vein into upper calcaneal canal below medial malleolus  motor branches to abductor hallucis, flexor digitorum and first lumbrical muscles. Sensory branches innervate skin of the anterior medial aspect of plantar surface.
Divides into 3 common plantar digital nerves (innervate first and second lumbrical muscles)  divides again into plantar digital nerve  supplies web spaces of first to fourth digits.
