Tibialis posterior:
Proximal attachment – upper1/2 of posterior aspect of interosseous membrane and adjacent parts of tibia and fibula
Distal attachment – navicular tuberosity; medial cuneiform; all midfoot tarsal bones; bases of metatarsals 2, 3 & 4
Open chain function – ankle plantarflexion and foot inversion
Closed chain function – only muscle that supinates weightbearing foot; decelerates internal leg rotation and accelerates external leg rotation; decelerates forward movement of tibia and assists in heel lift; stabilises tarsus in posterior and medial directions
Nerve supply – tibial (L4, L5)
Arterial supply – posterior tibial, sural and peroneal arteries
