Acrocyanosis
Rare condition in which feet and hands become blue on exposure to cold. First described by Crocq in 1896.
Cause unknown or associated with a connective tissue disease. Related to arteriolar spasm. Have a low resting blood flow more deoxygenated blood in extremities
Clinical features:
Get a symmetric blue/purple discolouration of the feet, hands and face – persistent. Symptoms of feeling cold and paraesthesias.
Hyperhidrosis
Not an intermittent problem (like Raynaud’s)
Tend not to develop trophic changes such as ulceration.
Some have oedema and hyperhidrosis
Differential diagnosis – Raynaud’s phenomenon, connective tissue disease
Treatment:
Usually unnecessary.
Vasodilators may be of some benefit
