Lumbricals:
Proximal attachment – tendons of flexor digitorum longus after division into its 4 slips
Distal attachment – medial dorsal aspect extensor expansion
Open chain function – flexion of MPJ’s and extension of IPJ’s
Closed chain function – plantarflexes the digit against the ground during propulsion
Nerve supply – lateral plantar (digits 3 to 5) and medial plantar (2nd digit)
Arterial supply – plantar metatarsal artery
