• oral or parenteral for hypocalcaemic states

Vitamin D:

Calcitonin-Salmon:
• from of calcitonin derived from salmon
• inhibits activity of osteoclasts (decrease bone resorption) and inhibits tubular resorption of calcium (increases secretion)
• indicated for osteoporosis, Paget’s disease of bone, hypercalcaemia

Bisphosphonates:

Pamidronate:

Alendronate:

Raloxifene:
• selective oestrogen receptor modulator (SERM)
• structurally similar to oestrogen
• prevention and treatment of osteoporosis
