Postnatal development

An essential component of paediatric practice is the monitoring of growth and development.

Milestones are generally monitored are:
1) Anthropometric
a) Height (length) and weight
b) Dentition
2) Developmental milestones

Body proportions:
Different body parts grow at different rates. The upper limb initially grows more and earlier than the lower limb. Foot grows more initially than the rest of the lower limb.
Lengthening of foot in relationship to length of lower limb is at its greatest intrauterine.
