Tardive Dyskinesia (TD):
Iatrogenic hyperkinetic movement disorder related to treatment with dopamine receptor antagonists – usually occur after a year of taking medication. Develops in about 20% of those taking neuroleptics (especially elderly). May be due to hypersensitivity of dopamine receptors. Movements usually involve head and neck (eg chewing; sucking; licking; repetitive grimacing; ‘fly catching’ movements). Management – withdrawal of medication (usually get spontaneous remission in 60% after withdrawal)
