The resistance of individuals to certain infections can be artificially enhanced.

Passive immunisation – donation of specific antibodies against a particular infections agent

Active immunisation – administration of vaccines which stimulate production of host antibodies.

Vaccines – 4 main types – (1) Inactivated viruses; (2) Live vaccines; (3) toxoids; (4) Component vaccines
