Triple Arthrodesis

Triple arthrodesis:

Fusion of talocalcaneal, calcaneocuboid and talonavicular joints

Indications:
• severe pain and deformity in rearfoot that does not respond to conservative measures, especially with poor biomechanical function; paralytic (eg poliomyelitis)
• usually reserved for pathology when all rearfoot joints are involved

Do loose compensatory motions available at the subtalar and midtarsal joints  loss of motion in one or more joints may increase stress on adjacent joints.

Outcomes:
• most studies show patient satisfaction rates of 75%-90%
