Leonardo da Vinci (1452–1519) was an Italian polymath of the Renaissance period. He was known for his proficiency and contributions in various fields including painting, anatomy, engineering, mathematics, and architecture, among others. He is widely considered one of the most diversely talented individuals ever to have lived. Some of his most famous works include the Mona Lisa and The Last Supper, both iconic pieces in the realm of art.

Da Vinci’s interests and talents extended far beyond art; he also made significant contributions to science and engineering, designing inventions ranging from flying machines to military weaponry. His notebooks, filled with sketches and ideas, provide insights into his immense creativity and intellect. Leonardo da Vinci is often referred to as the “Renaissance Man” due to his wide-ranging expertise and accomplishments across multiple disciplines.

The Vitruvian Man is a famous drawing created by Leonardo da Vinci around the year 1490. The imagery of this drawing is widely used in podiatry and by podiatry clinics.

He is also well known for his statement on the human foot: “The human foot is a masterpiece of engineering and a work of art”
